Vincent T. and Gloria M. Gorguze, Professor of Engineering and Interim Dean of Engineering, Professor Steven Ceccio, and Richard H. Alex Halderman, who has been appointed to the prestigious Bredt Family Professorship. Professor J. Alex Halderman is the Bredt Family Professor of Engineering at the University of Michigan. With over 90 technical publications and eight best paper awards to his credit, Professor Halderman’s work has received extensive recognition.

At the “Science in the Service of Democracy” event, Professor Halderman will deliver a lecture highlighting his groundbreaking research and its implications for democratic institutions and processes. The lecture will explore topics such as election security, election infrastructure challenges, and protective measures for technology that supports democracy. His accomplishments have been lauded by many, including the Andrew Carnegie Fellowship in 2019, the University of Michigan President’s Award for National and State Leadership in 2020, and the USENIX/Meta Internet Defense Prize in 2022.
